U.S. Masters Swimming Dorothy Donnelly Service Award

A USMS member for over ten years and an avid open water swimmer, Lauren coached Team Phoenix. It was a local group of breast cancer survivors whose purpose was to learn how to swim and then compete in triathlons. Her goal was to give confidence to women who were fighting a health crisis. Lauren’s most heralded contribution was her creation of a non-profit organization in Wisconsin for USMS’s Adult Learn to Swim program (ALTS). She and a friend created a group called “Making Waves Milwaukee”. A website was developed and a campaign to signup non-swimmers began. She applied for and received USMS grants in 2019 and 2020 and the class offerings included scholarships for those who couldn’t afford the fee.
